Do you have parents or grandparents living in senior housing?

My grandmother lived in subsidized senior housing for many years. My mother and father lived in the same building, later, for 25 years. My aunt (age 98) lives in subsidized senior housing now.

All were satisfied with their housing. The units are quite small, and seem more appropriate for a single person than for a couple. The buildings were well maintained.

I imagine that this varies greatly from one location to another, but here I would recommend them to those who need/qualify for them.

From friends' parents' experience, the elders can benefit a lot from being in a building with other people to spend time with. One problem that can occur is if there are younger "disabled" people who are disruptive, especially if the building isn't managed well. So, as always, do a little research on the specific building first. One of my friends managed such a building, and took very good, loving care - as a super, not a caregiver - for "her" old people.

From the last five years, my grandmother is living in Luvida Memory Care and she is very happy there.
