No, your parents won't die if it's not 90* in the house but the elderly do get cold in the warmest of temperatures.
I'm like you, I need it cool in the house. When my dad lived with us I'd go as high as 74* and my dad would have his winter coat on and be huddled up under blankets. But at night it had to be cool or I wouldn't sleep so I did what the captain suggested and got a fan for my room.
My dad and I compromised (well, he compromised more than I did) because we got the house together and the thermostat was neutral territory. Whose house is it? Yours or your parents?
roccoe, actually your parents would eventually become ill by having the house like a Turkish bath which also means there are no windows opened to get any fresh air into the house. I don't like the heat above 70, either.
Very high heat in a home can damage the house itself, and everything inside, including your parents, plus there will be mold and mildew.
And I can just imagine the smell, which your parents probably have become nose-blind to..... I know my Dad has, he just revisited his house today after moving out 2 months ago and he still doesn't notice the stinky smell. He thinks opening the windows for a couple of days would help.... nada, the smell is in the carpets and in the walls :P
