Won't do rehab.

You don't get the same person back after a stroke that you had before. Personality changes are part of the deal. My mother was not nice before her stroke, but the woman I got back after was h3ll on wheels.

BUT, you don't necessarily have to just put up with it.

Keep a journal of the times of day you see ups & downs. A doctor is going to want to know if there's a cycle to this of any kind. Is it worse after exertion? Like, do they get meaner when they are more tired or hungry? Or is this constant with no breaks for any reason?

Does the anger come after a frustration? Stroke victims don't bounce back to normal without rehab. The amount of rehab can vary person to person.

This is something that needs to be discussed with their doctor ASAP. Keep on taking notes to make sure that any medication prescribed is helping or to see if there are more changes happening.

You can protect yourself by knowing this is NOT YOUR FAULT. A stroke causes brain changes. Not all of them are nice. Make sure you have a chance to get away from it. Being around this 24/7/365 is going to affect your mental health. You have to have respite.

Needs to be seen by a geriatric psychiatrist. Antidepressants may help.
