How is the long term care place being paid? If this is a Medicaid placement, there is a place on the application to indicate that the "community" spouse has financial needs. If the parent is single, then, yes, the SS basically goes to cover part of the NH charges. But it is more complicated when there is a spouse. You can discuss this with Florida's Department of Aging Affairs hotline.
