Am I over-reacting? Our friend had a stroke and was home with a caregiver friend for 2 months. They got into a fight.

They got into an altercation. Mostly verbal, with a little mutual physical contact. The caregiver shared, "I could have snapped his neck." The friend called 911 and what psych. in-patiented. It's my gut feeling that, no matter how my friend might try to manipulate his way back home, and minimize the incident, and perhaps the caretaker's words were "just an expression," but, I wonder if these two guys should go back to working together again.

Thanks, it sounds like my reality check proves that I need not be alarmed by the guy's word choice, it's just an expression he used out of frustration. I still don't think it's in his best interest going around saying it to folks though.

I would suggest interviewing new caretakers and getting references. Your friend might need someone with more skill and experience in his situation or his mental level than this new caregiver can offer at this time. Personalities are different; so even with skilled caregivers with years of experience -- they may not hit it off. It is best if you can find the right fit so everyone is happy. I advise, start interviewing and getting references from local nursing homes/AL/doctors offices/geriatric care advisors for your area and start there. The current caretaker sounds too inexperienced for this particular assignment.
