I'm a hospice social worker and I have a patient who needs to move from the Midwest to the east coast. Finances are tight. The patient's condition precludes a ground trip so flying is the only feasible travel I can see. Are there organizations who donate our discount medical troops?

Why, if on hospice, would the move need to happen now? The move may very well kill the patient. I don't know of an organization that will pay for the cost of the plane ticket. Flying or any sort of travel makes it sound as if patient is not that sick.

What are the circumstances that dictate a move for someone in hospice? If it's b/c the family wants the person closer to them, it would be far more practical and easier for the patient if the family made arrangements to visit where the patient is.

Glad is right; the physical move or even the mental and emotional trauma could be catastrophic.

The transport could kill the patient, even in an ambulance. Don't do it.

It is hard to understand why a person who is dying needs to move half way across the country. But even if there is a valid reason I don't know of an organization that provides airplane tickets. Does this patient belong to a church or other organization that might take up a collection for him?

Do they need medical transport with nurse and equipment? It seems that I recall a thread around here from a year ago about a company who does that kind of thing. I"m not sure what the costs are. I think pretty pricey. There are charitable organizations that help with certain medical transport, but, that would have to be approved by the group.

If the patient would be able to fly, say in first class with the aid of a nurse, you might check with the airlines to see what if any provisions they have for free tickets.
