My aging father has been abusive to my mother and my sibling and I his whole life, and continues to be more so into old age. He is now no longer able to care for himself. We are not financially, mentally, or emotionally equipped to take care of him ourselves - my mother has her own health problems and my sibling and I have our own families with young children and refuse to allow him to move in and ruin their childhoods the way he ruined ours. He has no income and hasnt for a long time (lived off of my mothers income) and no other family who will take him in. He has absolutely no one due to his own actions and choices.

Are there any programs or options for elder care in a facility that is covered by outside financial assistance? We are in Ontario Canada. Him living with us is not an option due to the abuse. I understand I have some obligations as next of kin (legal obligations?) but due to the abuse I've suffered at the hands of this man I feel I am in no way obligated to care for him and I am protecting my children by not allowing him into our lives that way.

Yes, most of us are from the US so things are different hear. We have Social Security we pay into while we work, Medicare and Medicaid. If I was in ur position Medicaid for Long Term Care would be where I'd look for help. And here as a child, we are not held responsible for a parent. Especially if abused by that parent.

Do you not have a Social Service dept or a dept of Aging. Please, don't try to care for this man. Here we have adult protection services that help in situations where people cannot care for themselves.

I am in the United States but there are several Canadian posters on this forum.

I am so sorry that you are struggling with this situation. Hang around for a bit. Best wishes to you. Take care.
