There have been lots of issues with this dementia patient. Back and forth to mental hospitals. Kept sedated. There have been a few incidents of bad behavior that was provoked. His wife is very involved, there almost daily. She's not in the best health aND when he became aggressive a year ago she begin seeking placement as no help was available. Since several people have stepped up to help. So the last visit he had at home for 3 days , the NH calls and requests a meeting before he comes back. Said they don't think they can continue caring for him. She was preparing for another transfer to mental hospital when a friend steps in and offers to help with daily care. So she decided to remove him. They initially refused to give meds, we're difficult to deal with and are now threatening her that she removed him AMA. I'm thinking they're going to deny his home healthcare. Any advicell I can give my friend? She's so overwhelmed and confused by the system. It's been a nightmare!

I have a sister in a group home and they told me it is a Medicaid rule. No bed holds for more than a two night absence. You have the additional complication of overriding the MD's order to get him into Memory Care. Yes, it is an AMA, and the facility may sue for the rest of January's rent. Your friend is showing signs of dementia herself, because she failed to give 30 days notice. She has also placed the patient and herself at great risk of injury. I would expect that Social Services APS will visit them soon.

Wow! My friend has been through a horrible experience and facing the hardest trial in her life. But youre probably right about social services because of this sick world and its corrupt procedures. The nursing home needs to be in trouble not the wife who is trying to care for her husband.

She didnt fail to give notice, they refused to take him back but later tried to say she didnt bring him back. They have lied to her to cover themselves. Because they cant kick someone out. She didnt know that.
