My mom has a life insurance policy with my dad as primary beneficiary. He has dementia. If she dies first and he had to be put in a nursing home will the proceeds have to go to the facility.

I thought you were allowed up to $10000. on non-cash valued policy for burial.

What Pam said is right. My father left my mother some life insurance, which is being held in the bank. If my mother should have to go to a nursing home, any money she has will go toward her care. It is the nice think about life insurance. It was my father's way of taking care of my mother after he was gone.

You would pay the facility with that money as part of a Medicaid spend down. This is not a facility rule, it is a Medicaid rule.
