I've noticed, so many times, when I would be out with my Mom, I would inevitably be approached by someone who wanted to share that they understood our situation. Just today I had errands to run and my mom and 2 dogs were in the car waiting while I ran something into the post office. As I approached the car I saw that my mom had opened her door and a man was standing in front of her. He said that one of the dogs had gotten out and was running toward the street. He was afraid she would be run over, so he scooped her up and brought her back to the car. He asked if she had Alz, I said yes, he said he understood as he helped his father who had Alz. I thanked him profusely for essentially saving my dog and he offered God's blessing. I realized how many times I've connected with complete strangers b/c of Alz, and that there is a special bond between caregivers. Almost like, no words are necessary, but love comes as a great big hug from the heart. What an amazing effect.

It's almost like random acts of kindness from kindred spirits.

I just re-read my post and should also include that I was grateful for the man stopping my mom from getting out of the car too!!! :) She had never done that before when she had the dogs with her.

Another act of kindness: That same day when we were exiting a store, my mom had "lost her steam" so-to-speak, and needed a rest. A very nice lady showed concern and offered to stay with her while I drove the car up to the door so she didn't have to walk too far. Sometimes I think I get a glimpse of what God is up to with this disease, at least the "good part" of this terrible and heartbreaking disease.

I think this site is wonderful and I'm not into social media. No FB, LI or tweets. It has been a great help to me also :)

As a boomer, most of my friends are dealing with caring for there parents. I have lots of great discussions with friends and acquaintances about our experiences. It does tend to bring you closer to people when you have this commonality. I have to watch not to dominate conversations with caregiving stories when non caregivers are around as it gets very boring very quickly for them. My wife thinks I'm a little nuts for checking out this site every day but it's been a great help to me.

I had the same thought. I experience it, but have also learned to accept the gifts that come along the way ;)

Haha yes it works well to connect with everyone who is a caregiver. Now as for the family members who need to help out......nada.
