I would start by contacting local agencies like this one for information on assistance:

Caregiving is challenging but very rewarding--what's in it for you is the gratification of seeing your mom through a very difficult time--good luck.

Is your Mom enrolled in Medicaid? If so have her physician request home care or home health services.

You know, if your mom is in advanced stages of cancer, then you might consider Hospice in your area. They come to you and are totally amazing people. I don't know much about what is entailed in cancer treatment, but you might look into it. Prayers for your mom and you.

I am currently caring for my cousin who has seizures and had a tumor removed from the lining of her brain 5 months ago. She currently needs wound care and physical therapy for her right leg.Her foot and part of the leg is numb. She has no insurance and just started the process for disability. What are some options for paying for home care for the wound and the physical therapy?

I suggested Hospice because my mother was on it after her stroke. They are such a help. We didn't take my mother to Hospice, they came to our home. She actually graduated from Hospice. I am in a situation right now where I am watching my mother 24/7. It is hard. Don't guilt this woman into caring for her mother. It has to come within her own heart. If it's too much for her to handle herself, then so be it. Her mom would not want her to get sick watching her. We are of Hispanic background so we do feel a certain obligation taking care of our parents. My husband and his family totally feel different. They want to be put into a nursing home. Maybe she doesn't have the means, financially or physically, to take care of her mother. It isn't cheap. We have been blessed where we do have the means and it is still very hard. Don't judge her... that is not your place.

You are entitled to receive pay. In CA medi cal will pay for a nursing home or for me to stay home and care for her at $11.50 an hour. Those of us her are not wealthy need financial and physical help!!!! Medicaid is likely to also pay for hospice. Get her on medicaid asap. Ask them directly if they can help with this or that. Call your church and see if someone will sit with your mom while you take a nap or go to the store. Please keep us posted. I almost quit my job for my mom with AD but then we would have only had her SS income; not much for 2 people to live on. Eventually i got laid off (june 2011) so I have been receiving unemployment.

She's your mum for goodness sake, you are required to take care of her (its biblical) Any how, talk to your moms hospital and speak to a social worker she can hook you up and answer most of your questions and assist in what financial programs are available, I live in California and here we have medi-cal and IHSS program that pays me to be a caregiver for my spouse (he is a stroke patient now) but in other states I found that there is medcaid and no IHSS (In home support services) but maybe there are other programs available, but I encourage you to speak to a social worker. Trust me, I've been where your at, good luck and god's speed to you.
