My mother was diagnosed with having moderate dementia, no matter when she go to the bathroom she have a bowel movement. Back in January she was in hospital for acute Kidney problem but they said she was ok, the only medication they prescribe was Folic (spelling might be wrong) but I know its fluid pill. So its it normal and is it because she is going into the next stage of dementia? Called her doctor to set up appointment just wondering if my worried unnecessary.

Oh, Blannie, you are so right. Folic Acid is given to people to treat kidney disease. It's not a diuretic, or fluid pill. Until I did the research, I did not know Folic Acid was so useful.

And, guess what, diarrhea is a side effect of large doses. Yes, tell the doctor.

I think the "Folic" is probably folic acid a B vitamin.

Sorry, I should have said artificial sweetener, not artificial sugar.

Wish there was an edit function.

Sounds like she's getting enough fiber and fluids, so that's good! Is the poop weird? If not, sounds good to me.

Never heard of that diuretic. Search for side effects on the internet.

I know that if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, you could have multiple bowel movements daily, but there would be other symptoms too.

I don't think the dementia has anything to do with the bowel movements, it's probably coincidence. However, I do have to ask if this is a *new* development for her, or is it her usual occurrence to have multiple bowel movements. Normal is whatever is normal for that person, there isn't a REAL normal, per se.

I'd check her diet, first, to see what she's eating that could be causing it. Too much artificial sugar can be a suspect, such as in sugar free candies or other foods.

What goes in must come out. If you eat good, you poop a lot.
