My mother will be living with us this winter. She is incontinent and I have figured out plans for the chairs in my home, her bed, and the bathroom area (I clean it constantly). But what do I do with the depends that she takes off? She generally puts them in a plastic grocery bag and drops it on the floor in her room. I don't know it for several hours and by then, her room smells like a men's room. What do you do with those used depends to keep the smell down?

Could you supply a garbage can with a self closing lid that she can put the bag into?
Or even a plastic bag lined hamper.
Is she sealing the plastic bag or just putting the disposable brief in a bag?
If you can not convince her to put the bag in a garbage can, hamper or other appropriate container then it sounds like you are going to have to be more diligent with monitoring her bathroom use and hygiene.

You might try a "diaper pail",  they are designed for dirty baby diapers so they keep the smell down some.  You still have to check it fairly often, but at least it's not constantly.

I just take the bag immediately to the trash outside.

I'd check her room often for the bags or ask her to tell you when she has one ready.

Best of luck.
