Confused about qualified widower.

I am sorry, but we are a forum of Caregivers sharing our experiences.

You really should talk to a tax preparer. If recently widowed, there maybe things that need to be done. I think one is including a death certificate.

My Mom and MIL only brought in 20k a year with SS and a small pension. Because of this, they did not have to file income taxes. You may want to look into that but again, you need to speak with a tax preparer.

Do ask a CPA your questions about this. With legalities like this you cannot afford to be wrong. You can also call the IRS; they have a number on their website. While I had to wait a while to speak with them I found they were knowledgable and kind when I got them.
