Which I’m not happy about and neither are my family. I do not want to have anything to do with my mother's money but at the same time I still would like to see what is going in and out of her account. Just to reassure me that all money is accounted for and money that has been lent to nieces is paid back. My sister says I don’t need to see them!! Surely I need to keep my eye on it! My mum is fine with it as she would like to see as well.

How do you know that your sister lent your mother's money to your nieces?

Has your mother asked to see her accounts? Your MOTHER has the right to ask for an accounting; as POA, your sister has the responsibility to keep your mom's finances private.

If your mother is still competent, she can change her POA to someone other than your sister.

No she isn’t 100% but it seems very unfair that I do as much for our mum as my sister but it is all secretive, I don’t want to be a POA but I would like to check what goes out... it’s only fair. It worries me sick .

Your mother most certainly has a right to see an accounting of her funds. Many expect this accounting on a monthly or quarterly accounting. Your mother can also tell the financial POA to give you a copy.

Your mother did not need to consult you when she gave your sister POA. Your mother is the only person entitled to know what the finances are.

Not when she has dementia and she wants to see her finances, also surely a sister would consult each brother or sister ! Not doing behind their backs!

Part of the POA responsibilities is to keep mom's finance and health business private. Your mom, if an attorney finds that she can understand the purpose of the POA, can change her POA.

At an early point in my mom's dementia I stopped showing mom her bank statements, etc. She just did not understand them and it was very frustrating for her. I chose not to open that can of worms to have one less stressor for me and mom and her hubby.

Relax. Maybe take mom to the bank to check her accounts without POA knowing?

Mom did not need a consult with anyone prior to appointing sis. Leave the dysfunction out of it.

Hi thankyou for reply.... yes I’ll take her to bank... for our own piece of mind and checking that the lent money is being made paid back to my mum, as she has forgotten about it and not fair on the rest of the grandkids.... . It’s just not fair that my mum wants me on poa but she’s too forgetful now ... it was all set up when my dad was alive, he too had Lewy body dementia. Just my sister and I should of been on it and done things between us, you would think being a sister she would of informed me as I would ! ESP when I’m the closet daughter !!
