NMom was dx'd in 2017 with mid-stage VD. She presents extremely well. She is so cunning and manipulative!!! Last Tuesday I got 2 loaves of bread. She is borderline diabetic so I am monitoring her carbs. Thursday I noticed both loaves are half eaten. She knows exactly what she is doing!!! She deliberately did that hoping I would not notice!!! Urgh...Rant off! In years to come, I will laugh about it but I am pissed right now! :D

Please share your stories...I need a good laugh! :D

Back in May, you wrote: "Mom was at AL for 3 1/2 years. She has been with me since Dec but will be going to a different AL soon. "

It's now October, and from this post it seems that your mother is still living with you. What happened to her going to a different AL?

When she was in MC she did the same. The nurse who was extremely perspective agreed as well that mom knew what she was doing and was being manipulative. I have been on the journey for 8 years with both my parents and have done extensive research and have been a 24/7 caregiver for both of them. This is her Narc behavior sadly.

If Mom was diagnosed 5 yrs ago, she is pretty much into her Dementia. Look at it that she is a toddler. She really has no idea what she is doing. Her shirt-term memory doesn't allow her to remember from day to day, minute to minute. Lock up what you don't want her eating. Hope she is not being left alone.

When memory goes a bit wonky... sigh..
Some will eat, forget they ate & so eat again & again.
Others say Oh I've just eaten, when clearly they have not.

I imagine diabetes adds another dimension of cravings too.

Classynsassy1, your Mom had been diagnosis with dementia 5 years ago. She is not deliberately doing what you wish she would not do. Yes, with dementia she can do "showtiming" where she appears to have no memory issues. The rest of the time she probably cannot remember when she last ate, thus the reason both loaves of bread were half eaten.

Learn all you can about dementia, then when Mom goes into the next stages you won't be surprised. Go to the blue/green bar at the top of the page.... click on CARE TOPICS.... click on Alzheimer's/dementia as there is a store house of information.
