Good doctors order necessary consults and evaluations. Palliative care is an ICD-10 code like any other consult e.g. neurology, nephrology, etc. I suspect your wife exhibits signs/symptoms of pain. Is she contracted? What is her prognosis? What were her wishes for her end-of-life care?

Your wife's doctor ought really to have discussed these care options with you, and the facility should be able to explain any steps you need to take and how her care can be funded. Do you find it difficult to get hold of these people when you need to talk to them?

She should be fine in her assisted living facility assuming they have no trouble accommodating her under hospice care. How are you paying for her care now? Hospice funding is covered by Medicare.
