Try to find out why the clothes are poopy. Does she have diarrhea? If so why are they overusing laxatives. bring the clothes home in a bucket or tightly closed plastic bag. Remove as much poop as possible and soak in weak bleach if suitable. Dump everything in the washer and spin. Run through a cold wash, then a very hot wash if the clothes will stand it again with a little bleach and high quality detergent. If clothes are clean remove and dry. Run an empty wash with bleach through the washer and it should be sanitized for your clothes.
Smells don't make you sick but contact with infection will. Wear rubber cloves when handling the dirty clothes and do not allow them to come in contact with family laundry. make sure you vigorously wash your hands after filling the washer. make sure mom has regular access to the toilet and help as needed. It is easy to dress someone in the morning and just leave them sitting in a chair all day. Make a habit of visiting at all times of the day so you can observe the routine. The pull up depends type of diaper are the most comfortable and not too hot. try and inspect her buttocks to make sure she is not irritated.

What we used to do with poopy diapers was to pre-rinse them in the toilet to get the poop off, before washing them twice in hot water.

Laundry soap, hot water, and a hot dryer will kill most anything, IMO. I would wash them twice, so the last rinse is very clean.

Talk to the people at the facility. Is it Assisted Living or a nursing home? You can pay extra to have them do the laundry, I think. Mom probably needs to start wearing disposable "protective undergarments." Also talk to her doctor, to see if there is a treatable condition causing this.

To learn more than you ever wanted to know about pee, poop, and incontinence, use the search bar on this website. There are people here who are EXPERTS and can tell you what kind of adult diaper is best, how to get her to the toilet in time, and lots more. Good luck.
