I think you should bat your question as hard as you can straight back at the hospital.
Their 56 year old patient is hard of hearing. He requires an audiologist's assessment and prescription hearing aid. What are they going to do about it? Hint [to them]: "nothing" is not an acceptable answer.
Did your son have a hearing aid previously? If so, and it just got lost, could the audiologist who dealt with that possibly repeat the px?
If you get no constructive response within a reasonable period of time (normally I'd say 48 hours, but in a psych unit, based on my personal observations of their apparently doing everything in zero gravity, better give them 'til next Monday) then you file a complaint. It's neglect.
