No, like said April 3 check is for March and she died in March. I am surprised they haven't already taken it back. Yes, call SS.

If it’s a social security check and it was for March, SS should have taken the check back. it’s been nearly a year since your mom died and received that check......if the check was for February, then she/you is entitled to keep that check and that’s why SS never took it back.

Call the Social Security office. You might need the death certificate besides any other relevant paperwork for her. Hopefully this issue being a year old will not create difficulties in resolving it. So sorry for your loss.

No, SS will want it back since she didn't live the whole month. Had she passed on 4/1 you would have been OK.

So this is about a social security payment (or possibly overpayment) from nine/ten months ago? And you are hoping that it can go towards a memorial service for your sister?

I suppose it will depend on whether her benefits were paid in advance or in arrears. I should think the safest thing to do would be to contact whichever office was in charge of making the payments to your sister and ask them. Make sure you have all the relevant dates and reference numbers to hand when you call.

I'm very sorry for your and your family's loss.
