Find Care & Housing
Gigi, unless your mother has some other reason for a special diet, there's no reason to change it because of alzheimers. That being said, she does need to be monitored because there will be times that she will forget to eat or forget what she ate. So, if you are her meal preparer then i would fix things with plenty of the food groups.

A lot depends on what stage she is in and what her current diet is. The Mediterrean Diet, as well as dietary supplements such as Omega 3 and antioxidents are listed as one of the important practices in treating Alz. Also good idea, as a preventative, for all.

GIGI--YOU HAVE RECEIVED SOME VERY GOOD REPLYS--I AGREE, THAT UNLESS THERE IS AN UNDERLYING HEALTH PROBLEM, IT WOULD NOT BE NECESSARY TO CHANGE YOUR MOM'S DIET-BUT PERHAPS FOCUS SOMEWHAT MORE ON FOODS WITH OMEGA 3 AND ANTIOXIDENTS. THIS INFORMATION CAN BE OBTAINED EITHER ONLINE-OR THRU YOUR LOCAL CHAPTER OF THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION...
