I don't recall having to give the funeral home either of my parents birth certificates. Like you, I don't think I ever came across my dad's birth certificate.

My condolences on the loss of your mother.

I was the "informant" for my father's partner's death. While I did have his birth certificate, the only information the funeral home wanted for the death certificate was his parents' names. No one asked to see it or make a photocopy.

Best wishes and condolences to you and your family.

I'm sorry for your loss. The funeral home usually does ask for the names of the parents, for the death certificate in case you need one.

I wasn’t asked for my mom’s birth certificate when she passed.

I'm so sorry for your very recent loss. If you are having to deal with your mother's affairs you may find it saves quite a lot of time if you have the birth certificate anyway, and it shouldn't be too difficult to apply for a copy. Google "lost birth certificate" and follow the instructions for your jurisdiction - there is information on the usa.gov website.

The only thing I was asked for was drivers license or state Id.

My deepest thanks to all of you. At this difficult time, it gives me hope that there is one less thing I have to worry about doing. I was a caregiver for only about 7 years but it was intense. This site gave me lots of support and I will continue on it and perhaps help others. Thanks again. Eileen
