I change everything, plus the rugs. Just wondering what to expect next. I'm tired. I wash 4 loads a day and feel very over whelmed. I guess I'll get use to it in a few days. This started about two weeks ago. She can't stand wet pants. What do you all do? She must be worn out.

How about using Depends, or Poise pads, or another adult diaper product. Also, have you talked to her doctor about this, if this is a new symptom?

She has been using Depends for about three months. But for some reason she tells me to take her to the potty and she is pulling them down and peeing all over the floor and her clothes, etc We change the Depends every time too.

Use Depends briefs. Put in a maxi-pad, too. That way, most of the time, you can just remove the maxi and leave the Depends on. No more panties. With mom, I never called them Depends, I called them "your fancy pants" or anything but.

Good ideas, thank you. She will like that name, fancy pants. She told me yesterday she really misses her mom, my precious Grandmother Sallie. I told her I miss her too and she is in our future, we will see her again.

You asked how long will this go on? Welcome to the wonderful world of general age-related decline. In fact, I heard on the news today that 25 million adult Americans experience incontinence, and 75-80% are women.

The best advice given to help with this problem is Kegel exercises. My Mom, who is 97, does the exercises which surprised me she even know about them :)

She has no idea what Kegel exercises are. Her brain won't comprehend any of my explaining. She will look at me and say "oh". Then it's gone to infinity. We will just have to keep trying to get her to go to the potty when she first wakes up. Just another, curve ball. I will find away to save the clothes and shoes. Got to be a way. The doctor said she might have some Parkinson starting up. I know it is all going to get worse from here on. Just got to deal with it and take one day at a time. I will be trying to get one of those lifts with the net seat the next time we go to the doctor's office. She is still a tough cookie and the boss. I feel sorry for her.

Who even goes to the bathroom to urinate 12X a day? I'd talk to her doctor to see if she's got some issue with her bladder - like a urinary tract infection. I would think most people go 3-6X a day...I'd also try to get her on a schedule so you're taking her BEFORE she asks to go. It sounds like she can't feel that she needs to go until it's too late and she has no ability to hold her urine. I'd be taking her every 90 minutes or less, to see if that helps. And I'd definitely have her in "fancy pants". Good luck and keep us posted!

That is what happened with my Mom; not being able to tell she had to go and not able to hold it. We used Molicare Plus, they hold a huge amount of fluid and saved Mom from being so upset with herself. We also had a bedside potty so the trip wasn't so long. Used waterproof bed pads even on the recliner she sat on just for safety.

My mother is a frequent urinater. On days she takes Lasix she goes back and forth to the bathroom all day long. She makes it most of the time. She won't wear protective undergarments. In fact, she won't wear any undergarments unless we go out. Anytime she stands up she has to use the bathroom. Her pelvic muscles and bladder are weak, and she probably doesn't get her bladder emptied each time. She also has spinal stenosis from arthritis in several of her lumber vertebrae. This probably increases her need to urinate.

There have been spells that are worse than other times. I don't know why. It does get tiring to smell the urine and mop the floor -- thank goodness for vinegar. However, I know she can't help it. I do wish she would wear Depends when she has the bad spells, but it's a bit like wishing for a million dollars to come in the mail. We just do what we can. :)

We had this problem all night long. The regular doctor recommended a urologist. She did all testing in her office and diagnosed my mom with over active bladder. We tried about 5 different meds before one worked. We used gelnique, a gel you would rub on her leg or stomach once a day. We also used pad, then pull up, then pads inside pull-up . This way one trip to potty was take off pad and put on new pad. Unless very wet we only had to change mom to put into pj at the end of day.
