This is a tough one. How old is your mom? I am a bit afraid she is a like the boy that cried wolf and when she does need real attention, an ambulance, no one will help her.

I would have a doctor evaluate her. Does she have low blood pressure? Low blood sugars? Is she lonely and needing more attention and company?

Maybe a nursing home will be more suitable. And she will get the companionship and attention she needs.

Um, this could be what is called syncope. Google it.

Has your mother always been an attention seeker?

I would not dismiss this as a symptom. Has she had a cardiology workup recently?

Your profile says Mom has dementia. The sudden falling may be part of that. In some forms of dementia sudden low blood pressure is not uncommon. Certainly many, many persons with dementia fall frequently for no apparent reason.

But in any event, fainting to get attention is not the behavior of a healthy adult. Even if she is "faking it" that is an indication that there is something wrong. I would discuss this with the doctor who treats her dementia.

Yes. She has always been an attention seeker. She did this when dementia first started . I just found your forum and wondered if anyone else had experienced this. She lived with my brother and my sister for a while and did this. They ignored it because she would just act like nothing was wrong and go on. She came to stay with me and "passed out" at my shop. We called an ambulance and took her to hospital. Nothing wrong cardiac wise and she doesn't have diabetes. She is now in nursing home. She is 88. Tries to get out and sets off alarms. She isn't the mother I knew and I have the greatest respect for those who take care of their loved ones at home, but do NOT give up your life. Care facilities are there for a reason.
