I have 3 younger brothers and I have cared for her for over 7 yrs (no help from or calls from any of them). My mom wants to make it easier on me, I know her wishes but we want to have a 'legal' document to back it up. I bought a couple of packets from Staples for POA paperwork and want to be sure I have all the bases covered. She lives with me (I care for her 24/7), has a long list of medical issues, she doesn't have any property, and the only money she gets is her social security and has no savings. Looking for some help from the pros in this group. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

If you do go the way of Sad, make sure its witnessed and notarized.

Seems what Alva did was more than you need to do. If Mom doesn't own a home and her income is just her SS and maybe a pension, all you will need is a POA for financial and Medical. You can call around for pricing. Since you are on her bank account, check with the bank to see if Mom passes do you automatically get the money left. It all depends how it was set up. If Mom wants u to get that money, just make sure its worded correctly.

Having it notarized is a part of the paperwork. It would not be valid if everything was not signed at the bottom. That would be obvious

My my POA which was purchased online works just fine. It cost me $75. It is accepted by all of the banks, insurance companies, utility companies Etc. It is very detailed and about four or five pages long. Just get your POA and move forward. It will be important to have this so that you can take care of any medical needs, bills and answer questions make decisions when the time comes for a nursing home.

Personally, my brother and I did this work with the help of a Lawyer. Was it expensive? Yes. About 4,000. But this made me certain of good legal paperwork to take over as POA and as Trustee of Trust. This is not something you can afford to do less than perfectly and a POA depends in large part on exactly what abilities your Mom assigns to you. This is going to save problems going forward, and as CA is costly, I think I likely paid what is the most that could be paid. The lawyer had to travel back and forth to a rehab. If you and your Mom can go in the office you should take everything current, including her accounts, wills, and etc. Do get guidance, would be my suggestion. This is a one time thing, and cannot be done when your Mom can't make these decisions. You will need health and financial papers.

I recommend a lawyer to draw up the financial and medical POAs. He will make sure all the Ts are crossed and the Is dotted. My Moms Medical read like a living will. I feel that one drawn up by a lawyer would be better excepted than one you bought at Staples.
