He was diagnosed with dementia 3 years ago. His kids don’t come around, so he no longer mentions them. Tonight he was ready to go back to his hometown. He still gets around but I’m wondering for how long. He suffers from incontinence.
That is all part of the dementia journey. I'm hoping that you are educating yourself on what his FTD all entails, as that will help you tremendously along your journey. And if your city has a local caregivers support group, I would recommend attending that as well. Most are meeting on Zoom these days. You can just Google it to see if there's one in your area. My mom (86yrs) has Vascular Dementia. She believes she is 29yrs. and tells stories in that time frame. She was diagnosed 15 yrs ago and her memory loss was off & on. She has had virtually no short-term memory for 8+ yrs. Alzheimers & FTD have more of a decline over the years. He may still "get around," but his memory will continue to fail. My mom has done very well in a Memory Care facility, for 5 yrs. I have a handicapped husband at home & I am grateful that she is happy there.
There aire little sparks of cognizance here and there, but one of these days they won't be there.
