My mom wants to buy her the clothes that are impossible to take off, but my grams gets upset when she can’t do something or figuring something out. The dementia is kind of new she always remembers me and you can see she gets upset if she can’t. Do you think this will cause my grams stress and make her aggravated if she can’t figure out how to remove her clothes?

I agree with those who question why your mother is having trouble with grandmother removing her clothes. If it's because she removes clothes and then soils the bed, then I would consider the new clothes a necessity. If it's just because, then, who's it hurting? It could be that grandmother doesn't sleep well and is keeping your mom up at all hours. If that's an issue, I'd discuss it with her doctor and see about a sleep aid. Grandmother may already be having stress during the night and that's why she's up and removing clothes.

My Mom would get up in the middle of the night and get fully dressed. She couldn't do this during the day. What clothing would be impossible to get off? My Mom would freak out when she couldn't get an over the head top over her head. Undressing is part of the Dementia. My Mom stripped down and walked out into the AL hall. TG the nurse caught her before a man who knew Mom came out of his room. She only did it once.

It's all about weighing the pros and cons and considering everyone's feelings and frustrations and not just your grandmother's, I imagine there is more to this than worries about propriety or it wouldn't have come to this point. If granny is incontinent and stripping leads to messes to deal with, or if she has your mother running to her throughout the night to adjust the temperature because now she's too cold or she wants her nightie back on, then I think your mom is justified in giving it a try,

Iwishiknewitall, one also need to figure out if Grandmother is undressing at night is because she is way too warm. Sometimes prescription meds can cause hot flash like symptoms.

Some people find wearing flannel at night may find it extremely warm... better to use a simple light weight cotton. Or use regular sheets instead of flannel sheets. Or less covers.

If a person find it cold not wearing flannel or sleeping on flannel, wearing cotton socks can help.

Great screen name! :)

I'd have thought the new style of clothes would be worth a try. If your grandmother turns out to be more upset by them than she is about winding up starkers in the middle of the night, you can always revert to her usual nightwear.

Is your mother caring for your grandmother alone in the home? How long has she been coping with broken nights?
