My mom is 83 and I think she has some type of undiagnosed cognitive decline. A couple of things have happened. She has been sending so much money to a scammer for over 10 years (she only has her SS check). She has borrowed money from everyone, she has taken out loans and declared bankruptcy. She took out a loan with my information and guess who is paying it back? She has cut off all of her family (I was the last one). She is doing really crazy things and at this point, I am not even sure she has running water in her house anymore. She has blocked me on the phone and has changed her locks and will not open the door for me or anyone else. A family member that I have not seen or spoken to in years left me a voicemail saying that my mom was outside of her workplace asking for money for minutes for her phone. Everyone is telling me to take care of her but I literally can't. I am hurt, confused and literally do not know what is the next best step. PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE :(

She took out a loan in your name without your permission?? Are you sure it isn't her *scammers* who got the info out of her and took out the loan?

I would report it to the authorities. In no way should you have to pay this back!!

Reporting her fraudulent loan, along with a report to APS, may speed up getting her medically checked. She may be able to get Baker Acted. She's been doing this for over 10 years... does she have a history of mental illness and maybe now it's colliding with some sort of dementia?

You aren't responsible for her. She wouldn't cooperate, anyway. This is why you need to file a police report and APS.

Call the police to do a wellness check on her immediately. Obviously something is seriously wrong with your mother. If necessary, get APS (Adult Protective Services ) involved. I will say, however, if she's still capable of working, she may just be caught up in a romance scam. If this were my mother, I'd show up at her workplace to take her to lunch. She'd likely not make a scene there. Then you can see her for yourself and demand answers.

Good luck to you.

I misunderstood....I thought mom had a job, sorry. Geaton is right. You are nor responsible to pay back a fraudulent loan! When you call the police to ask for a wellness check, let them know about this loan.
