We don't know how long he will be in hospital or rehab. He's not quite with it. I live in a neighboring state. My brother lives in his town, could pick up mail until we terminate his lease at IL; we could also have mail forwarded to brother, but I typically handle the finances and official business when he needs help. Just wondering what others have done about mail. I have just paid Dad's bills (bro shipped to me) with his credit card. I also have access to Dad's email, checking acct by prior permission.

Durable POA gives you the legal right to forward his mail and handle all of his business on his behalf.

I am sorry that he has suffered a stroke and pray that he recovers well from it.

Pretty sure you can even go on line and set up an account and then ask the mail to be redirected. Set it up just as if you were him.

You have to provide certain identifying proof when you do it inline. In order to have the mail forwarded, OP will have to have a credit card in dads name with the same billing address.....it’s really not as simple as setting up an account.

Likely you will need to present a copy of the Durable POA to the Post Office. You should be able to do that at your local post office and then put in a change of address form.

Mum is Durable POA over a couple, who now live in two different facilities. This is what she had to do. We are in Canada, but I imagine it will be the same.

With Dad, as he does not live where his mail is delivered any more, he signed a document allowing a friend to pick it up for him.
