She is 85 yrs old. 4 yrs into dementia. I can see that her mouth is very dry. She becomes very angry when I try to give her anything.

4 years is not a long time to have dementia symptoms, but it progresses differently for each person. The symptoms you mention are typically end of life symptoms. Hospice or palliative care can be of great help in evaluating your mum and give you some peace of mind.

Call her doctor. If not on Hospice, this maybe the time to do it. They will evaluate Mom.

Do you have a doctor you can call? She may be ready for a referral to hospice.

At the end of life, my loved one slept a lot and became disinterested in food and drink.

We called in hospice. They told us how to keep her comfortable until she passed away. They were very helpful.
