My niece will come and stay with my Alz husband while I go on a cruise. Since I do not want to overwhelm her I can get Medicaid to provide a home Heath aid to come in and help her. I would ask for someone to come in in the morning to help get him ready for day care and at night to help get him ready for bed. He is totally mobile so he does not need much help but concerned about him wanting his privacy since I am the one who always helps him shower and dress. How do you think this can be handled. Also I would pay for someone to come in at night 11p-7a because he does get up at night to go to bathroom and I'm concerned he might fall and she will not hear him since she will be sleeping I the guest room.i live in Florida and what do you think a reasonable amount to pay someone for a six night stay for those hours

Can you break it down a bit more as to what you are thinking the shifts would be? Are you thinking two people? Generally, there needs to be a minimum three hour shift if you are using an agency. What time does your husband get up and go to bed?

I'm going to suggest a different strategy, what about having him go to an AL for a respite stay? All the aides are in place and he gets the bonus of having his own "holiday" while you are away.

OK so 3 hrs in the morning, 3 in the evening and 8 at night- 16 hours at $10 per hour would be $160 per day. Still cheaper than a nursing home. I'm guessing your income and assets are too high for Medicaid.
For a temporary stay at assisted living, the facility would still need to evaluate him. He must be able to get to and from the dining hall and comply with a direction from staff.

The nurse assistant is probably making $12 per hour, a little more if she was a CNA. So pay them each the going rate, including the niece. You do not have to pay the niece for her hours when she is asleep or he is at day care.

Sorry - I realize you mentioned the 11-7 shift but I'm considering how the shower/dresser shift will fit in.

I am thinking 7a-11a for six days to help niece with him showering and get him ready for day care. He usually goes to bed around 8 or 9 so 7p-11p to get him ready for bed. And then 11p-7a for night shift. This is so when he gets up to go to bathroom someone is there to assist him. Niece will be asleep in guest room so she won't hear him get up plus I want her to be able to sleep . I can probably get Medicaid to pay for 7a-11a and 7p-11p
Then I would pay for night shift which would be a friend who is a nurse assistant what do you think pay should be for 6 nights
Don't want to put him in facility want him to keep his regular routine of sleeping at home and going to day care
