This morning my mom was up early, very unusual for her. Lately she's been sleeping most of the day and up all night. After a pleasant greeting between us, I went in the kitchen, she comes in and tells me to get out of her house, I've been taking care of her for over a year, she screams at me that she can't sleep because I might slit her throat! She was in a rage. Mother is 97 with dementia/Alzheimer's not eating enough food and barely mobile. Is this normal? We're thinking of placing her in a home.

If her change in behavior is sudden and unexpected I agree with Barb, have her doctor take a look at her.

Out of control emotional outbursts, accusing loved ones of nefarious behavior is normal for Alzheimer's.

I have a similiar problem but I am not living with her. She has been very different toward me. Had a hissy fit about our conversation with executors & kept calling me a liar. I told her how I feel they way she treats me but she says nothing. I also told her she does not treat me like her daughter & why did she even have me. Dead silence. You would think she would say I don't want you to feel like that I do love you but nothing. It really hurts. There might be a small start of dementia.

I would start by getting her tested for a UTI. These at often asymptomatic in elders except for a sudden change in behavior.
