Donate them to senior care facility, hospice facility, salvation army, homeless shelter, hospital, a local board and care, senior adult day care facility, local "offer up", local organizations. Or even animal shelters. They could use them as beddings for pets.
If unopened and sterile I would think any hospice organization would be thrilled to get them, or know who would. How kind of you. Sympathy for your loss.

I have in the past donated unopened boxes of adult diapers to our local Senior Services. They were very grateful to receive them. They said they could only take unopened boxes though. I'm sure Chicago must have a "Senior Services", so perhaps start there.
