Find Care & Housing
From what I have read, any time an elder is taken to the hospital they forget where they are, thus appear to be confused. And some times the side effects of new meds could do similar.

Example, my Dad has minor short term memory issues but when he had to stay overnight at the hospital due to a fall the next morning he thought he was in a hotel and wanted me to help him go to the front desk so he can pay his hotel bill. Once Dad was back at his home for a couple of days, he was back to his normal self.
