Insurance will only pay for outpatient therapy or in home care but not both- she needs therapy to hopefully be independent again but not able to be home by herself. She lives alone- bad insurance. Her daughters lives out of town and they want someone with her at all times. She has very limited money but not enough for Medicaid. Is there any help out there?

You don't say her age. You need to talk to Medicaid. Sounds like she needs longterm nursing.

How long has she been getting physical therapy in rehab? Is it feasible that she will recover enough to live independently? What does her doctor think?

KellyM are you sure she is not Medicaid eligible? If you deduct her medical expenses, does that take her below the limit? If it does, she may be eligible.

Does she have Medicare Supplemental? Not sure if it would help.

Medicare pays the first 20 days of rehab in a facility. After that 50% up to 100 days. Supplemental maypay the balance but in Moms instance, she had to pay the remainer (after both insurances paid) of a $152. She was released before the 100 days because she was as far as she could go. Medicare will not pay if therapist can't prove ongoing improvement. Thisshould havebeen explained at time of admission. They may release her to home PT, OT. You should have had meetings with the therapist explaining how your Mom was doing. A Social Worker should talk to youbefore discharge. If you are not being kept in the loop, than youneed to talk to the administrator.

Medicare Supplemental is, of course, a monthly premium.

I just found out from my husband's stay in rehab, that if you are in a nursing home the income restrictions are different for Medicaid.

Medicare not paying if therapist can't show ongoing improvement is a misnomer; if therapist is not wanting to continue and is saying that somebody needs to file an appeal

Call a Home health Care Agency that a member of your Church works for..,
3 days of care does not cost much and they can provide care when you are not there. If you have No Money ask your Pastor at Church for help.., or Family Member or Friend.., Close friends will sometimes help out for a little Gas Money..,
