What's your mother in hospital for?

If she went from normal to nuts in two hours, my first guess would be pain relief side effects - but obviously you need to speak to her doctors. Hope you're able to get good information about what's going on very soon. Please update us if you can.

Bubba, about 80% of elders who are in the hospital have some sort of delirium. And about 20% of younger people who have surgery have the same thing.

When you think about it, you are in a room you are not familiar with... out in the hall are new noises all day and all night long.... you are not familiar with the faces that come in to treat you, and with a shift change it becomes more confusing.... you are sleeping in a bed that doesn't feel like home.... you are awaken at 5 a.m. because the lab needs a blood test.... and the food you are not use to eating.

There could be side effects from new medicines being given, so let the nurses know that Mom isn't herself.

Hospital stays are difficult for dementia patients. It can be a scary place! Can family members take turns and stay with her during daytime hours at least? Have you spoken with the staff to see if they are aware of any incidents?
