The hospital never gets back with me to answer any of my questions or concerns. I don't believe she has covid. I need to know what to do or how to get the information I need to get her released so I can make sure she is getting the right treatment.

You need to ask to have a care manager, a case manager, whatever that institution calls it. It is very difficult to get anyone right now. Nurses are quitting (something I knew would come with this round). They are in desperate circumstances. Your Mom is either positive or not for Covid. ANYONE can give you this information if you are next of kin or POA. Ask for a Social Worker if you need to. I don't understand your not "believing" that this is true? I cannot imagine why anyone would lie about such a thing. Who gave you the information that she does have Covid. They generally know in the ER now whether testing positive or not; need to know before transfer to floor. I hope you will keep on this information. Simply ask when test was done. Typically now with a fast back test they are also doing a second confirmation test that takes about 2 or 3 days to come back. Good luck.

I can totally understand your dismay...we went through this with my MIL last May when she got covid in her LTC facility. Why don't you believe she has covid? Are you saying the hospital has misdiagnosed her? If your mother is of sound mind and can communicate, the hospital is under no obligation to communicate medical information to you (HIPAA rules) unless you are her medical representative. My MIL was never brought to a hospital because she had a DNR. She was treated with 5 lt of oxygen per day and Tylenol for comfort and that's all. She had even stopped eating and drinking and was very ill and weak for 4 weeks. Was put on hospice the 4th week and seemed to be on death's door. Then she abruptly rebounded and recovered. Today she is back to her prior self. I have another 96-yr old aunt in MC with advanced dementia who recently this month had covid and was briefly sick and now tested negative. It is not a death sentence unless one has certain underlying conditions related to immunity, breathing and blood pressure (mainly). Maybe contact the hospital's social worker and see if she is able to get your mom to sign the Medical Representative form naming you and then the hospital can talk freely. May you have wisdom and peace in your heart.

Why do you not believe it is COVID?

I am sorry that they aren’t communicating with you.

Keep trying to contact them. Try another way. Do you know of an email address to use to send an email?

Can you ask her primary care doctor to contact the hospital and then relay info to you?

Others will have suggestions for you.

Wishing you all the best during this trying time.
