I am mom's SS representative payee as she is unable to handle her own finances, and is easily taken advantage of where money is concerned. With the allowance that she is given can she have her own bank account? Mom is 92 years old. A family member is reason I was made her representative payee.

What about a prepaid Visa card? You load it with spending money... When it's gone, it's gone. Just an idea... Like a debit card.

Don't know but I would doubt that, since your mom is not "able" to handle finances (dementia, confusion, etc.), I would think that the bank would not agree to her having an account.
Ask the bank manager if a senior, who has a payee because she can't handle her own money, could have an account for her spending money.

I'm sure the answer would be "no".
