Ooh yayyy she's finally getting sleepy ,,yayyyyyy ....shhhhhh no one make a peep ..I've been up since 5am ,I worked a long long shift at the hospital and I've been up 21 hours so far .....she usually picks the nights when I'm most exhausted to get taking ,,,, is thus typical of these manic , psychotic episodes for dementia patients ? Thank you and good night ...🌙 😴

My mom did that for about two years. Luckily she could no longer get out if bed or walk so wandering was not an issue. We gave her Seroquel too...didn't help. She just talked or yelled all night from about 11pm on until I got her up around 6. She doesn't do it very often anymore....only a few times per month. We sleep in the room next to hers so it can be loud. My husband and I sleep with headphones and music. I can still hear her but it helps. Sorry, no solutions, just feeling your pain ;-)

My dad is beginning to sundown in the early mornings - off and on. He gets confused, looks at the clock and think it's lunch or dinner time. He will keep calling because it's time to eat. He's forgotten that he can't walk. I've found his legs dangling. Good thing the railing is up and he only has one good arm (other one is useless due to the stroke and refusal to do therapy because it hurts.) No Meds because he refuses to go the clinic. His right.

Lately, he keeps asking me where's the old lady (invisible person) or to feed the 3 ladies. He gets really upset when I don't feed them. I try to pretend but.. he sees them and they didn't follow me to the kitchen. =) Stymied on THAT one...

ohmeowzer, this certainly doesn't happen with every person who has dementia, but it isn't exactly rare, either. If it becomes more frequent and the seroquel is not enough to keep her sleeping, discuss it with her doctor and see if other remedies can be tried. Caregivers MUST get adequate sleep. A zombie taking care of a demented person is a disaster.

My husband took Seroquel 100 every night before bed. Without him sleeping through at least most nights I could not have kept him at home with me. With the help of various medications he made his 10-year journey entirely in our home.

If these episodes are infrequent and redirecting Mom to a television show works, perhaps you can grin an bear it. But I urge you not to let this go on too long, for your sake and ultimately for your mother's. Do discuss it with the doctor.

bookluvr, a person in my local support group had a kind and generous husband (a minister, actually) who saw (or had delusions of) who saw young children in the house. He'd ask why isn't she setting places for them at the table. She got very creative at answering him. "Oh, I gave them snacks a while ago. Their parents are coming for them soon and we don't want to spoil their dinner."

If your dad's friends don't follow you into the kitchen, "Well, I guess they just don't want to eat right now. They are welcome to come in when they are ready."

Delusions really can be hard to deal with, can't they?!
