I'm her daughter; her 24/7 caregiver, since she was diagnosed with Dementia. She is very agile and active but recently she started wetting her pants. Yes, she's been to the doc, but haven't heard back yet. I assisted her in the bathroom in putting a pad on. We went out and on the drive home she said she was wet. Wasn't worried since I knew she had a pad on. She didn't! Like a magician she tossed it at some point...yet I was with her the whole time. So if this is not a U.T.I., then we are entering into a new level of Dementia. I need to get her to use some form of protection so we are not living in a "house of pee". I will try the full potty pants and put them OVER her regular under pants. Any more suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Okay, why would you put depends briefs or pull ups OVER mom regular underpants? Why not remove all of mom's regular underwear from her drawer and replace them with the pull ups.? Is she objects, you tell her "the doctor called and said you need to use these so you won't get an infection".

Hi Babalou, She did not want to give up her normal under-panties, so I was thinking putting something OVER them might be one way to introduce her to these new panties. Thank you for your suggestion. Appreciated.

It's up to you if you want to do extra laundry, but I would consider that the urine is more easily absorbed with the adult underwear being next to her skin. Her underwear is going to not work as well as the fabric of the adult diaper and may irritate her and hold the moisture more. It's not as sanitary, IMO. You can try and determine that for yourself.

Plus, your mom will progress and may often have requests that are not feasible, are contrary to good judgment or that are actually costly or ill advised. You will have to make the decision on how it will be handled. I'd work with whatever makes her happy as often as possible, as long as it's not creating a lot of extra work, costs or harm.
