Lately I've noticed, that Mom does not always clean herself. She will get out of bed and get dressed right away. Then she will say, "I'm all cleaned up and dressed" If I challenge her and tell her, that she never went in the bathroom, she gets angry and says "I WASHED MYSELF". Even though the Depends and the pee pad I left for her, haven't been touched. Likewise her washcloths are still dry as well. She has both cloth washcloths and the large size wipes. But it appears she's using neither! Today she smells like she is sitting in soiled Depends. I asked her to check herself, and she just blew up at me. " I'm clean, I washed myself". What can I do?

There comes a time when we just have to take over, the first few times will be the hardest. Some brilliant advice I saw online was to tip a glass of water onto their lap... naturally you make a fuss and help them into dry clothes! Well, since we are getting changed lets just wash up too...

I blame sitting in dirty depends for my mother's never ending series of UTI's. Like your mother, she often denies that she has soiled herself.

Other than being insistent on supervised bathroom visits, I don't know what you can do. Luckily for me, Mom is still compliant with her daytime caregiver so I only have to argue with her in the evenings and on weekends.

I'm sorry you are having this problem and it worries me that she will get deep crater holes as sores that will be so hard to heal on her hindend and then you all will have more problems.I hope she will cooperate with you more as time passes.Take care,Lu
