Injectables can be ordered by the MD. If she is determined to cross the rainbow bridge, call in Hospice.

Thanks for your response. I spent several hours speaking with and primary physician: all eventually agreed that best treatment is the er when the infection prevents her ability to eat. Although this sounds like neglect, the idea is to get my mom to go for IV therapy willingly. This is more than I can take, especially when one only need take a spoonful of medicine. I imagine this infection will cause her death; I have decided to let this issue evolve. There will be no guilt here.

(((((hugs))))) fajita - difficult situation. You can only do so much. They seem to want to leave this up to the patient, which does not always make sense to me. My mother needed an anti-psychotic but they would only give it to her if she agreed. So for months she lived in fear and mental torture, until during the last psychotic episode she agreed to the injection, and has been on it since, and much better. I said give it to her whether she agrees or not - she has vascular dementia - and it improves her quality of life so much, but they wouldn't till she agreed. Let us know what happens.
