I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Mom is presenting with constant delusions and accusations of being abused, all the local nursing homes refused her - because they are afraid she "might" have Lewy Body Dementia I believe. The family is worn out from the constant drama and feeling very hopeless. She was prescribed Serequil and it helped for a couple weeks but now shes worse than ever.

Certainly you can't take her home. A good inpatient psych eval sounds like a great idea.

I think i am going to have to take her to a geriatric psych ward. She just called me from the hospital (being released in the a.m.) saying she had been kidnapped and was going to be killed tonight and why are we doing this?

Baker Act her, get a 72yr admission for psychiatric evaluation. They will have more time to get her meds straightened out.

Oh my yes! If her symptoms abated and then returned, you should call the doctor's office right away to report this.

I think in general, a change in mental status needs to be reported as a symptom, immediately. Sorry if I seemed abrupt before; I was driving, but I thought you needed an answer!

Thanks babalou, actually it was a neurologist but he seemed very good. It's more than a month to her follow up with him tho. Hopefully I can get it moved up.

You need to go back to the geriatric psychiatrist who prescribed the Seroquel.
