Your mother could pay you. Most of the time with any program the only person that is not paid as a caregiver is a Spouse. Then other than your mom paying you you would have to find a program that would. You can check your local Senior Services but usually the caregivers that are associated with these programs are either hired by the grant or from an agency.
No, but try to look at it as being paid in the confidence in yourself you gain when you do right by her. We can’t choose the circumstances of our birth so do your best to honor your mother and her wish to die as she chose. Please. That means 644 hours that I have gone without a caregiver. This, along with the fact that I am not guardian of Estate has put me and my family in a very difficult position. Since Mom came to live with us in June, she has been thriving and in nowhere near the life threatening condition she was in at nursing home. As for being “generous”, it saddens me that I have been judged without knowing the circumstances. But the basics are, that if I do not use the small amount of funds that Mom has for her care and to help me while I am making sure she is safe and comfortable, it will be abused by family members, her other children.
Who are you wanting to pay you? If you are your mother’s court appointed guardian and she has the money to pay, you would have to either read the court order to see if says anything about you being a paid caregiver OR you would have to get permission from the courts to pay yourself. Medicaid will most likely NOT pay you, typically a POA, guardian, and representing payee are usually not allowed to be a paid caregiver through Medicaid. The rules vary from state to state but most will not pay a guardian.
