My mom keeps yelling hello literally every 2 minutes which means she cannot be in a shared room and she irritates the other residents. Has anyone had this type of problem with Alzheimer's patients? And did you find any solutions? Ativan doesn't stop it or slow it down. I can't afford to have her in a private room. She has to much in monthly income to get Medicaid but not enough to continue with increasing care.

Are your mom's needs being met? Does she need to use the bathroom? Do her pants need to be changed? Is she hungry? Thirsty? In pain?

I'm assuming she's yelling from her room? Would she like to get up and out of her room? Does she yell when she's up and out of her room?

Ensure that her basic needs are being met first and then go from there. If she continues to yell she may need a higher dose of Ativan.

Yes, first check to make sure she is getting the attention she needs. It's not uncommon for people in care facilities to be passed by for long periods during a day when they need something. Second, check her meds, is she being given all of the meds, how long has she been on them, she might need her dosage changed. I have a similar problem, although yelling hello would be more frustrating, my parent hoots and yells like he's at baseball game, lol or in a rodeo, lol. It can be startling.

Alzheimer patients may yell any word, normally "help" when they are at a very late stage and need anything at all - they cannot articulate what they want. If every need is satisfied, see if your mom can be seated somewhere where a lot of people pass, or near a window that looks onto a street or garden. Any movement there will distract her attention and she may forget to shout out.
