My mother was prescribed Aricept and she started becoming verbally abusive and harsh accusations towards my father. Once we took her off the Aricept, it all stopped. The behavior you described could be the side effect of a medication.

I am afraid it is the beginning signs of dementia. I took her to her Dr. but he really didn't do much regarding this.

My mom was doing that to my stepfather and then he would go back at her. Then the police got involved a lot. Had to put mom in nursing home my step dad couldn't handle her and it was dementia. It's been a year and she misses him so bad. She's depressed. You need a doctor to check her. It could be something she can't help.

What does dad say? Where does he go, what does he do? How long is he kicked out? Does something need to be done to protect him while she gets some help?

Could she go to a geriatrician instead of a psychiatrist? (If there is one in your area.) Maybe she needs anti-anxiety medication, and the geriatrician would know what's best for an elder. Also, could she have a UTI? That can make them act crazy....

This is new behavior. Unfortunately, I spoke with her physician who recommended a psychiatrist, but my mother refuses to go.

Is this behavior new? If it is, discuss it with her doctor.

If this has been going on for many years, there is probably nothing you can do about it. She kicks him out ... where does he go? Why does he go?
