It’s for $278 and there are other bills that are more important. She said she never ordered them and when I called them they said they couldn’t cancel it until the bill was paid in full. I think that's absurd because you are still acquiring charges and you can’t catch up. I think it was one of those that you get this great offer and if you don’t know to cancel it then the offer turns into a very expensive offer. Some elderly people don’t think they have to call once that offer expired so they keep getting billed. Sure the magazines keep coming but there’s no longer that great offer. Anyway, because she has hospital bills in collections and she has much more important bills that need to be paid, what do I do? I talked to them and they agreed to cancel, but there is just no money for that. I will admit she’s awful with money she has had issues with lottery tickets and she always wants over a hundred dollars cash in her pocket. I was trying to figure out where her savings went. She had 16,000 in June and it’s down to 4,000 she said she had to pay this or that my brother does cash rent on the farm and he use to give her money to pay the taxes in March and they are due in June. Well by June she doesn’t have money so she would get mad and there was always a fight she use to get a loan to pay it then she has to pay the loan she use to get so mad if you find this out she always says that her taxes are so much more than they are anyway my brother is not giving her the money until June she is livid but my brother is tired of seeing her name in the paper but really it’s her money I am so happy that I am not involved but they both bitch to me this is non of my business she went crazy with credit cards in the 90 ‘s and had to have a lien on the farm I can go on and on and her mail is full of catalogs she buys junk from i have just thrown that away yesterday she said she wants to see her mail and I said I have all your bills taken care of but the other stuff is just junk mail and place asking for donations or scams saying give us $30 so you can claim your $4,000,000

Staff, well if she sent a check and asked to be canceled thats their problem. Never pay it. Believe me, they got their money in overcharges. When my MIL got involved in this scam, it cost her like $20 a month. That's $240 a year. If you got subscriptions for five mags thru specials it would not cost this much.

Barb, when people Don't pay their taxes on time, their names are listed in the local paper. Probably an incentive to pay since people u know now know ur not paying ur property taxes.

They actually canceled it when I talked to them and they said she had made payments before and I asked for a statement it’s hard to tell but it looks like she has never made a payment or she did it once and if so she wrote on the statement to cancel it this was back in June 2017 so it’s added up quick

Those large magazine bills resulted from a scam. She may be getting 5 plus mags a month and some are absurd such as fishing and hunting. If you call the company that started it, they will give you the runaround. I had to help a friend handle this. I called some individulal mags to cancel saying it was a scam. They were helpful but the individual company just replaced with others. He eventually stopped paying as bills mounted for other things.  You may have to take her to the bank and request monthly statements.  If you have enough of her personal info, you can register her online if it works.  You can also forward her mail to you to get a handle on things

Don't pay the bill. Sounds like Moms credit is in the toilet anyway. My sister was involved with these magazine people too. Seems she signed up for five years and they wanted it paid in full to cancel. Call BBB and see if what they r doing is legal. If Mom can't keep up the house, then why not sell it and get her an affordable apartment?
