How old is Mom? You keep saying SSI. SSI is a type of welfare given to people who have no other income or enough quarters of employment for Social Security. Next question is if Medicaid is paying for her care why r you putting out any money? If their are insurance policies and Mom is beneficiary and the policy is substantial Mom will be taken off Medicaid until the insurance money is spent down. Then you will need to reapply to Medicaid. Medicaid does allow funeral arrangements to be paid for. But before anyone can give you more info, knowing the age of Mom would help.

Ok, my mom is and has been on Medicaid for 2 1/2 years now. The facility where she lives has contacted Medicaid and once everything moves to her checking acct. they will add it to her rent amount. Her SSI will continue with an additional amount from my dad which I know that facility will take for rent. And yes she will still qualify for Medicaid because she doesn't make enough money to live on her own and the policies aren't paying out in lump sum, just monthly. Social Security does not remove my mom's funds if my dad's are more, they just give her a death benefit amount monthly. Reason for asking is because she is costing me money every month and my savings is being depleted. My mom was never there for me when I was younger that is why my 4 other siblings have nothing to do with her. I am just trying to see if I can get some of my $ back and set aside money for her future funeral expenses. So my question is do they (Medicaid) have to take both insurance policy pay offs?

I agree with cwilly. I think you mean Social Security? If it is SSI and only Dad received it then that will stop. You need to contact Social Services. If Social Security, an adjustment will be made. If Dad received more, hers will drop off and she will get Dad's. So that and pension will go for her care. Same with insurance policies. You maybe able to prepay funeral expenses but the insurance proceeds will have to be used against Mom's care. You need to talk to the facility maybe they can help you thru it all.

If I understand your question your mom's income has increased since dad's benefits will now be going to her, as well as the money from his life insurance. Since medicaid is a needs based service she will need to notify medicaid of her change in status and include this money when calculating whether she still qualifies.
