They are not taking care of it from what I can see. It's all swollen, had a odor and the nail is just hanging on. She is also a Type 2 diabetic. What should I do?

Thanks. My siblings and I have been just doing that. My mom has been in a vegetated coma since her heart attack on Jan. 7 2014, so is unable to tell us anything. Her finger has been wrapped since we had noticed a black (blood) moon shape in the cuticle area of her thumb nail. This had is contracting and they are saying she has a ulcer (bedsore) on the knuckle of the thumb. They appear to have not urgency about it just to keep it exposed to the air and treat it (knuckle) as far as the nail it self, it all swollen and about to come off. Nurse said once it falls off they can treat the nail bed area. It just didn't sit well with me.

If it was my mom, I would be calling Hospice.

Hospice because she'd get comfort care, more oversight.
