It is just a matter of time that she is completely deaf. I feel that the hearing loss is going to make her dementia must worse. However, if I buy her hearing aids, she may remove them and they may get lost.

A hearing aid that can be placed around the neck is such a good idea. I don't know of anything like that but you're right to not invest hundreds of dollars on hearing aids. My dad had a hearing aid and once his mind started to go he'd lose it all the time. We would find it in a pants pocket or wrapped up in bed linens. We finally gave up tracking that thing down everyday and it was a shame because my dad couldn't afford another hearing aid plus he was on hospice so putting out the money for another aid wasn't logical.

This is the place the come to for ideas. Good luck on your search.

Hearing loss may actually relieve the patient from "too much input" My grandmother would turn her hearing aid off when she wanted peace and quiet.
It protected her from household noise. Many elders cannot handle a crowd of happy relatives all engaged in various conversations. Add in some children running about and laughing and grandma will start to tremor and lose focus. At a large birthday party for four year olds, it was too much and mom had to be put to bed.
